Policy on Bringing Babies to Class
The Department of Teacher Education encourages and supports mothers and fathers in the pursuit of their professional preparation as teachers. We recognize the challenge to provide appropriate care for children while parents attend classes.
However, bringing children of any age is not in the best interests of the child, the parent as a learner, peers in the class, or the instructor. We acknowledge that occasionally an illness or family emergency may interrupt the regular childcare routine. When this is the case, please contact the course instructor prior to the beginning of class. The instructor may approve or disapprove of having the child in the classroom.
Retaking a Methods Course (ElEd)
Students in the elementary education program must complete methods courses concurrently with a practicum course (299R or 399R). Because these courses are connected, students who do not receive a C or higher in a methods course must retake the methods course along with the same practicum class. This may impact students’ eligibility for completing an internship.
Program GPA, Course Grades, and Timely Progress
Students accepted into the major after May, 2020, must (a) maintain a total GPA of no less than 2.7 since admission to a teacher preparation major and/or minor program, (b) receive a C or better in all education-related and major and minor required courses (including any courses taken prior to acceptance into a teaching major or minor), and (c) demonstrate sufficient and timely progress in coursework and field experiences.
